About Woodash Gundogs - Gundog Training in the UK Countryside

A lifetime of working with gundogs.

Built on experience, consistency and getting the basics right.

About Woodash Gundogs

We’re Dave and Lex Rayner, based in Somerset.

We’ve spent years training, working and competing with Cockers, Springers and Labradors - from everyday shooting dogs through to field trial competitors.

Alongside that, Dave has trained and worked with many handlers over the years, some of whom have gone on to compete, judge and succeed in trials themselves.

The Early Days of Woodash

Woodash started back in the '90s, alongside working for a living.

What began as a keen interest in gundogs quickly became a big part of day-to-day life — training, working and learning with Cockers, Springers and Labradors.

Like most people starting out, it was a case of learning as we went, putting the time in and figuring out what works.

Over the Years

Over time, things naturally progressed.

Dave began competing in Field Trials, going on to have success across the breeds including making several dogs up to FTCH (Field Trial Champion) status.

Now a Kennel Club ‘A’ Panel Spaniel Judge, having judged at the highest level both in the UK and internationally including having had the honour to judge 8 championships so far.

We’ve been lucky enough to work with some very good dogs over the years — many of them homebred.

We take a lot of pride in seeing them develop.

Today

These days, not much has really changed!

It’s still about getting the basics right, being consistent, and helping people get the best out of their dogs.

Whether that’s a well-mannered shooting companion or taking things further into tests and trials, the foundations are always the same.
